The territory inhabited by the Kuki-Chin tribes extends from the
A great chain of mountains suddenly rises from the plains of Eastern Bengal, about 220 miles from north of Calcutta, and stretches eastward in a broadening mass of spurs and ridges, called successively the Garo, Khasia, and Naga Hills. The elevation of the highest point increases towards the east, from about 3,000 feet in the Garo Hills to 8,000 and 9,000 in the region of Manipur.

THE HISTORY OF THE KHULZEAM INVENTION
Pu Papao, a man of strong faith live in a village called L. Semol, Churachandpur, Manipur. He loves God and he love the oppress people expecially orphans. He instituted HOPE to fulfill his dream of helping any oppress people in all possible ways : spiritual, ecucation, job, economy, technical ground, etc.
The dreams : He says,
Date 12.10.1998, Sunday Service : I stood up on the pulpit to deliver my sunday’s sermon and as I was ready a passage from the Bible, I came across a word ‘Lunglien’ (Broad minded) which instead of reading in the correct pronunciation, I read it as ‘Lunglent’ unaware of my mistake I continue my speech/sermon.. Later the Local Pastor inform me of my mistake. This embarassed me very much just to think I was once a Bible student and the surprice of my incorrect pronunciation.
That night, thinking of the incorrect spelling that are usually used in the Kuki’s literature, I fall asleep and dream away. In my dream, we are inside a huge building/house. At that moment we see a giant woman 30 feet tall coming inside the house. Everyone is scare and we dare not look upon her face. Then everyone falls and bow down at her feet. No one is brave enough to open their eyes and look at her. But as I look at her, she comes and directly points her forefinger right at my face and she went away. I feel frighten and think that I am going to die. Later I came out of the house and saw several militants belonging to the Kukis and the Paites readying themselves and were about to exchange fire between them. All their guns had a kind of Alphabet written in them. I began to think these are ten alphabet that had already been existing for the Kukis. And this has not been reveated since we do not know how to use and combine the alphabet. then, I awoke after reading those alphabet for sometimes. And instantly, I wrote them down.
Date 12.10.1998, Monday : I dream about the alphabet again, in this dream I saw two man in thier old age. They says “Son, this new generation are young but it didn’t come to their attention that the English vowels A,E,I,O,U are insufficent for the several speech sounds we have in our language. So we should have 16 vowels in our literature. There they teach me how to write and how to pronounce them in the correct speech sound. When I woke, it was already 1:30 Pm and I wrote them down again.
Date 14.10.1998, Tuesday : I dream of a friend name Kiron Jochi, a chief chartant accountant of a company in Shillong. He says / asked to me, “Mr. Papao, are you sure you will be able to give a big and successful implementation on the alphabet that has been given to you? If not this opportunity and the alphabet will be given to the Zomi people?” I replied, “Sir, I will be able to work on it”. Then he says, “You are one of the fortunate peopel and you will be financially assisted as you will be specially selected to get a large sum of money. And you must contribute the money generously in order to accomplish the work you are given. Only with money you will be able to complete your work successfully”. Money will become the deciding factor in finishing your work successfully. Observing the alphabet, he says, “Bro. Papao, there are always two things : black and white, male and female, life and dead, good and evil. Likewise your alphabet are in pairs and you must combine and simplify by them into once just as a couple becomes one in marriage because according to God’s algebra when two combines it becomes one. In doing so, the alphabet will become easily understandable even to young children. Then K. Joshi in suggestion says, “The Kukis must complete this task wisely because it could always be given to others”. And I replied, “Sir, give me 5-10 yrs. to complete
the job”. He accept and went away. When I awoke I begin to analyse and combine them and realise I could combine them all efficiently giving me a much clearer idea of its hidden glory and efficiency.
Date 15.10.1998, Wednesday : In my dream, I saw a large crowd comprising of only Kuki women moving in my direction. And they say, “Mr. Papao, we (Kukis) often speak which is not written and we often write which is not spoken. So, it would be better to follow your alphabet, please, teach us”. But I replied, “I can not teach you right away as I myself do not mastered the alphabet yet. First, let me learn and then I will teach you”. As I do not teach them, they think I am proud and they return very disappointed.
Date 16.10.1998, Thursday : This night, I dream of a large crowd of people gathered together with books and pens. I do not know who they are but this time I teach them. We skipped the consonant chapter and move onto the 16 vowels. In four different voice we learned each vowel in nine sound speech. After sometime, the gathering comes to end in benediction from Rev. Douzapao. When I awoke I quite satisfied as I had been good in learning and teaching at the sametime.
The importance of owning alphabet :
We have our language, but we do not have alphabet to represent our sounds, so we are using the English alphabet till today. The English alphabet is insufficient and there always sums to be solve unfinish letters that might help in giving a definite representation of what we speak. And the ;problems we faced is using English alphabet sums endless that new problems arises witth each(new) solutions. One main problems is to have the same word (in spelling) for normal different meanings. One such eg. is ‘mol’ as they are illustrated below :
Thus, it is so important to have own alphabet that is constructed depending upon the rise and fall of the voice in speaking. It would also be encouraging to have such problem - solving, easy to use and efficient alphabet especially for the Kukis. The Kukis is an apex body of several tribes and this alphabet is acceptable and applicable to all irrespective of some minor difference thus serving as a backbone of unity for the Kuki tribes.
